ANALYSIS OF TWO OPPOSITE LEGAL OPINIONS (FATWAS) ON THE SAME ISSUE Essay
Investigation OF TWO OPPOSITE LEGAL OPINIONS (FATWAS) ON THE SAME ISSUE - Essay Example 15) introduced to them for explanation by the steadfast. Ali Khan (2006a, p. 202) allude to them as academic declarations which may have significant clarifications and thinking behind them or be essentially articulations tending to the current issue (Cornell 2007, p. 154) as feelings. Cornell affirms that such researchers extricate their decisions from the Quran, the Sunnah which is anything endorsed of by Prophet Mohammad, through production of accord among themselves or using Ijtihad, which essentially implies individual, consistent thinking with respect to a researcher. Customarily, various fatwas are given on a similar subject. The clarification for this might be that the every one of the fatwas is offered with respect to various topographical or recorded settings (Khan 2006b, p. 16). Christian Snouck (cited in Petersen 1997, p. 11) declares that another reason for the logical inconsistencies in fatwas is imaginary decisions that are not mentioned by the people tending to designed inquiries, for the most part gave for contention purposes as delineated wealth of different ideological points of view in the twentieth century (Petersen 1997, p. 28). Despite the unique situation, just each administering can be directly in turn (Khan 2006b, p. 17). In accordance with this contention, Dr. Sano Koutoub Moustapha (Different Fatwas, 2015), reacting to a question on taking care of conflicting decisions, finds that distinctions are typical since researchers have contrasting system and standards. He takes note of that Islam doesn't constrain following of Ijtihad, yet that fatwas must be given by qualified researchers. Muslims are permitted to pick sentiments relevant to them, with more grounded establishments or exercise their own judgment. As indicated by Dr. Moustapha, all decisions are worthy (Different Fatwas, 2015). Shaykh Muhammad Saalih al-Munajjid repeats that solitary learned people can give fatwas which ought to be founded on an appropriate evidential establishment (Islamqa.info 2015). Winslow Homers Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) articles Winslow Homers Breezing Up (A Fair Wind) Winslow Homers Breezing Up, situated on the West Main Floor in Gallery 68 of the National Gallery of Arts, flawlessly catches the magnificence and quality of nature and blamelessness. The composition, which was finished following three years of work in 1876, is shown among crafted by other oil painters including extra works by American and naturalist painter Winslow Homer. In this work of art, Winslow Homer delineates a man with three young men in a little wooden sail vessel that is riding along the uneven waters. At the focal point of this artwork is the harsh or back of the pontoon. The most seasoned of the young men is perched on the furthest finish of the harsh with his knees up and his uncovered feet fixed immovably on the deck. In spite of the fact that the subject is straightforwardly before the watcher, Homer uses a somewhat corner to corner direct point of view that goes from the back of the vessel to one side and removed skyline. It is this kid, not the man, who is directing the vessel easily with one hand on the line. His face is dismissed marginally from the watcher, yet Homer includes so much detail utilizing line and shading to highlight the young men jawline, left cheek and eye. All through the work of art, Homers utilization of lines is just alluded to by the definite forms of the figures and vessels themselves. These nitty gritty highlights stand apart extraordinarily against the thick layers of puffy mists, painted with thick and free brush strokes, which wait over the water. The utilization of expressive lines is additionally alluded to in Homers capacity to reproduce bends similarly as they would show up in nature, for example, the shape and type of the moving waves in the ocean and the mists floating overhead in the sky. Winslow Homer likewise utilizes the procedure of view, where lines are made from the two young men on the left and their dad looking to the sail while the kid guiding the pontoon is looking towards the shoreline, their goal. Inferred lines may likewise be application... <!

This one goes out to the parents
This one goes out to the parents Earlier this week, I attended an event in Washington DC where I got to meet two parents (hello!) who follow the blogs. They tell me that, despite the small number of comments from parents, there is a large population out there of parents who are readers of the blog. While most of those who leave comments are applicants, I would love to hear from some of the many parents out there. It would be great to meet you! The college admissions season can be a particularly anxious time for students. I remember waiting for decisions, being both excited and very scared. Of course, all of my friends and relatives would constantly ask, Where are you going to college? What schools have you applied to? When do you get a decision? and so on. With so much uncertainty, and their hopes so high, it often made me dread talking to people during entire application and decision season. Looking back, I realize that my parents were my rock. They consoled me when I didnt get in, celebrated with me when I did, drove me to visit my college choices, asking good questions while staying neutral. My parents helped keep me on task while filling out applications, took care of financial aid forms (thank you so much!), and even drove me to the post office so I could get an application postmarked right before the deadline. Being a first generation college student, we were flying blind a lot of the time, but together, we figured it all out, successfully navigating the process. It really was a great opportunity for my family to strengthen our bond. So, belatedly, thank you, Mom and Dad. I love you. To my parent-readers out there, Id also like to thank you for helping your daughters and sons through the process. They may not explicitly thank you now, but I assure you they are very thankful. Theres also some nice advice on the parents page on our site: Getting ready for the decision A critical job for parents is to make sure that young people dont interpret disappointing admissions decisions as a terrible verdict on their worth as a human being. Many students describe finding the right school for them as a little like falling in love: one trip to the campus and they just knew. That kind of intense emotional connection can make it especially distressing if an application is denied. No matter how confident you are of your sons or daughters abilities and college chances, its a good idea to find some way, perhaps long in advance, of talking about disappointments or reversals in your own life. That way, whatever the outcome, your child will know that it is all right to feel hurt, frustrated, even heartbroken but that the hurt eventually goes away, life goes on and other doors inevitably open. Dealing with disappointment If a letter from a college brings sad news, you may feel tremendous frustration and disappointment. But your job at that moment is to manage your own reaction so you can help your child move forward with confidence. If your child is not accepted for admission, it is not a reflection on your skill as a parent, nor a reflection on the worth of your child. Most often, rejections are due to too many excellent applicants and too few available spaces. Your support and encouragement are obviously especially important if your child is not admitted to his or her first-choice school. In the face of serious disappointment, children (even very mature 17- year-olds) suffer more than adults because they have less perspective. Help your child look around at other adults you know living happy, fulfilling lives. Almost certainly, they did not all attend the perfect college, nor did their lives proceed perfectly after that. There are many, many paths to becoming an interesting, successful person; one of lifes hardest but most useful lessons is that we dont always get to choose which one we take. Finding the right fit For your son or daughter, the college search and application process should be about one thing only: finding the right fit. Does that mean finding a school where he or she will blend in without a trace? Not necessarily. Does it mean that theres only one perfect school for every applicant? Obviously not. Fit means finding a community where your child shares the fundamental values and priorities, and feels comfortable enough to take the social and intellectual risks that make college really worthwhile. Fit is also a two way proposition. Your childs job is to find the school that feels right. Our job in Admissions is to choose from among thousands of qualified applicants the students we think are most likely to thrive in and contribute something important to the community of MIT. Again, does that mean there is some ideal MIT student, and if your son or daughter can only match that magic profile, he or she is in for sure? Fortunately, no or MIT would be a horribly dull place. You and your child know his or her strengths and potential; we know the strengths and potential of MIT. The goal is to find the right match between the two. Again, thank you to all of the parents out there, and I hope youll say a quick hello below in the comments!

What if someone is torn between having desire but not permissionââ¬âwhat recourse does he or she have? To see the relationship between desire and permission to have sex I would like to start with ââ¬Ëdesireââ¬â¢, so what is desire ââ¬â its sense of longing for a person or object or hoping for an outcome. Desire is the fire that sets action aflame. We will write a custom essay sample on Influences Woman or any similar topic only for you Order Now When a person desires something or someone, their sense of longing is excited by the enjoyment or the thought of the item or person, and they want to take actions to obtain their goal. I think the relationship between desire and sex, is a sexual desire that involves the lustful, sexually passionate feelings people have for each other. Sexual desire is a very intense and powerful emotion; it can cloud oneââ¬â¢s judgmental and prompt risk-taking. For example, manââ¬â¢s sexual desire is typically omnipresent, ready to spring into action at the slightest hint of a sexual encounter. His desire is, for all practical purposes, an automatic response, requiring nothing more than suggestion. His goal is sexual gratification; most typically, self-gratification and his thoughts generally are of pleasure rather than intimacy and relationship. If to talk about womenâ⬠¦we are complex beings. We differ greatly from men and even between ourselves when it comes to feeling and experiencing sexual desire. If we are to comprehend the true nature of our sexual desire, we must appreciate the role of the female sex standard. Our sexual desire lies deep within our souls; slumbering, awaiting an awakening that requires a specific degree of commitment and psychic receptivity on behalf of our partner. It is anything but automatic. Our goal is intimacy, relationship, and ultimately, transformation of our lover. Our thoughts too are of pleasure, but in a different contextââ¬âwe relish pleasure, not so much for itself, but for the transformation it brings to our partner. In my opinion desire doesnââ¬â¢t need permission or permission for desire. Your desireâ⬠¦the longing to do and actâ⬠¦is all the permission you need. The moment that the wanting of a new, more delicious form of expression rears its glorious head, you have all the permission you will everà need. Willingness and permission must be communicated clearly and unambiguously. Just because a person fails to resist sexual desires does not mean that s/he is willing, and thatââ¬â¢s when the person have to find other resources like, fantasizing, masturbating or having a nocturnal orgasms (orgasm during sleep) . Richard III Essays (1132 words) - Richard III Of England
Richard III Richard III 1. "The tragedy of Richard III lies in the progressive isolation of its protagonist". Discuss. From the very opening of the play when Richard III enters "solus", the protagonist's isolation is made clear. Richard's isolation progresses as he separates himself from the other characters and breaks the natural bonds between Man and nature through his efforts to gain power. The first scene of the play begins with a soliloquy, which emphasizes Richard's physical isolation as he appears alone as he speaks to the audience. This idea of physical isolation is heightened by his references to his deformity, such as "rudely stamp'd...Cheated of feature by Dissembling Nature, deformed, unfinished. This deformity would be an outward indication to the audience of the disharmony from Nature and viciousness of his spirit. As he hates "the idle pleasures of these days" and speaks of his plots to set one brother against another, Richard seems socially apart from the figures around him, and perhaps regarded as an outsider or ostracized because of his deformity. His separation from is family is emphasized when he says "Dive, thought's down to my soul" when he sees his brother approaching. He is unable to share his thought with his own family as he is plotting against them. Thus, we are given hints of his physical, social and spiritual isolation which is developed throughout the play. But despite these hints, he still refers to himself as part of the House of York, shown in the repeated use of "Our". The concept of Richard's physical isolation is reinforced in his dealings with Anne in Act I scene ii. She calls him"thou lump of foul deformity" and "fouler toad" during their exchange. Despite these insults, she still makes time to talk to Richard, and by the end of their exchange, she has taken his ring and been "woo'd" by him. After Richard has successfully gained the throne, he isolates himself when he asks the crowd to "stand all apart" in Act IV scene ii. And later, when Richard dreams, he is completely alone. Physical isolation in Richard's deformity wins sympathy from the audience as we pity his condition. But Richard uses his deformity as a tool against the other characters, to portray them as victimizing Richard. Thus the sense of tragedy is lessened by his own actions, even though his isolation may become greater as the play progresses. Richard's psychological isolation is conveyed through his lack of conscience in his murderous acts. Nowhere does he feel remorse for his murders, until Act V scene iii when he exclaims "Have mercy Jesu!" and "O coward conscience, how dost thou afflict me!". In this turning point, Richard's division from his own self is made clear from "I and I", and "Is there a murderer here? No. Yes, I am!" He has conflicting views of himself and realizes that "no creature" loves him, not even himself. We also never the "real" mind of Richard, for he is always playing a role, of a loving brother to Clarence, a lover to Anne or a victim to the others. We feel sympathy for Richard as he awakes in a vulnerable position and for the first time acknowledges the evil that he has done. But as he only reveals his feelings of guilt in the last act of the play, we do not see him in internal turmoil and thus the sense of psychological tragedy cannot be built upon. Socially, Richard is isolated from both the upper and lower classes of society. In Act I scene iii, Richard sarcastically calls Elizabeth "sister", and she contemptuously calls him "Brother of Gloucester" making a mockery of familial bonds. Margaret calls him "cacodemon" and "devil", and any unity that the characters have on stage is temporary and superficial. In act III, the citizens are said to be "mum" and "deadly pale", which gives a sense of quiet opposition to Richard's activities. Richard is thus separated from all around him. Temporarily, we see Richard and Buckingham share a kind of bond, as Richard calls him "My other self", "My Oracle" and "My prophet". But they part when Buckingham hesitates to kill the young princes when Richard says "I wish the bastards dead". This is the only time the audience sees Richard act with any other man, but we realize that it is for purely political purposes and that the union exists only while Buckingham remains useful to him. Our sympathy for Richard is limited as we see that he has no true friendships, and does not genuinely care for his family or friends. Thus

Ethical Filter worksheet Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Ethical Filter worksheet - Essay Example At times, one must decide just how honest one can be in a situation without causing further issues to arise. Being communicative is always advantageous as all problems can be resolved on the basis of communication. I have experience of this aspect of personality because of being in groups of friends and working groups. I placed communicativeness at the top of the list in terms of decision making because I think that being communicative is really advantageous in making any kinds of decisions whether they are personal or organizational. With the help of communication, a person cannot only express his/her views regarding a decision but he/she can also allow others to express in order to come to a decision (Caputo, et.al, 2003). Communication is a two way process and is only successful when both the sides are ready to listen to each other (Caputo, et.al, 2003). Therefore, according to my perception, being communicative is most essential for a decision making process and it should be prioritized. Communicativeness is a challenging job as everyone cannot be dragged in discussions at times so extensive effort is required. Communication should be prioritized and in communicating, oneââ¬â¢s role should be appreciative. To appreciate the good opinions and information given by a person always encourages people to take part in the decision making process. Also encouragement plays a greater part in persuading people to perform better (Caputo, et.al, 2003). The process of decision making becomes better when people are encouraged to share their opinions. People should be appreciated for their participation (Caputo, et.al, 2003). Appreciation should be there but appreciation that is wrongly done is disadvantageous so this factor should be taken care of. I consider trustworthiness as an important aspect of decision making as one cannot allow the other person to decide or form an opinion if trust is not there in between

Natural resistance mechanisms to HIV-1 infection Essay
Natural resistance mechanisms to HIV-1 infection - Essay Example There is currently no vaccine or cure for AIDS or HIV. The only known method is avoiding exposure of the virus. However a treatment known as post-exposure prophylaxis is believed to reduce the risk of infection if begun directly after exposure. Current treatment of HIV infection consists of highly active anti-retroviral therapy (HAART). This refers to combined therapy with three or more drugs, usually two that target the reverse transcriptase and one that targets the viral protease. Kimball's biology pages. 7 Oct. 2004. 24 Feb. 2007 Natural resistance to HIV can be considered at two levels: resistance to becoming infected with the virus and resistance to the virus if the person is already infected. The mechanisms of natural resistance in both cases are: Apoptosis. Apoptosis is a programmed death of the cells in multi-cells organism. During the HIV infection apoptosis is the main mechanism by which infected and uninfected CD4+ lymphocytes are eliminated. However apoptosis as a natural resistant mechanism to HIV infection has not been explored so far. Genetic factor.

These targeted customer segments that I had my ice cream consumers product. Despite the fact that my ice-cream products can be directed to a single, all of them, and my market research analysis showed that most people age of me between 5 and 20 of some-not-to-to-eat some ice cream. Ice-cream Product Marketing will be on my blocks: -For families with children-as that of ice-cream after being always should be during such as food Ministry dessert, it is during such as food for children after completion of believes. Families with kids as it is taken or eaten after diner it is a good treat for the kids and the children, desserts also plays an important role as bit o digestion Families- A family without kids are good, because u get to see the adult as kids, as they lick ice- cream and it always brings out the kids in adults. Teenagers these would be in the age group 7 to 20. Launching of my successfully ice-cream product price, I will be no need of the Budget. My target to monitor the budget will be for it to my producer and marketing strategy. This is the only way would be about the product can be started investigation in the best of luck market opened. In the budget for my new menu d Or ice-cream products will be marketing mix 1 million pounds being five major elements that are as marketing strategy for the Delice. These are based on the Delice is to achieve the target. Are these five elements, sometimes five passed through the, are: -price -place -promotion -product -period price In that it is necessary to stop an appropriate price of 62 my ice cream. The sale price of that is my ice cream, medicine is that the user to a drug bought a large amount in the price of the product is good taste the standard. Price of ice cream product for me is being determined in the low income and business behavior than is part of the Delice company but I will determine my ice cream product of à £2.75 price of local health charter of 500 ml ice cream. I selected because the price is as part of the price of the Delice price effect of a strategy. Due to the Delice in the launch of ice cream market, as Cadbury, Hagen Dazs, etc. But I started to use sliding calculation is the price. As a new flavour carte my product, or the desire of people can try and the tincture free if it is, it means that consumers will be ready to pay the price of which the government claims product ice cream. My research market analysis I told people that I tried in 3900, he said that my questionnaires spent on average 1 pound a time on four pounds ice cream. I know that the price of my ice cream product Hanguraja inherits and suitable for the price PLACE For my ice cream medicine are low income in the areas of all good and links or restaurant speeding lunch were present. It is also in selling to the United States and European countries. From the ice cream factory Delice police special attention in missing, ice cream product England ended around the rest of the division and Britain. In 8300 the trucks of ice cream which products to low income in the areas of the motorway. This easily, if ice cream in England is distributed in Scotland and Wales, while on a truck In Ireland of ferry. However, if my product foreign selling, which will be imported, the import of expenses and pay taxes to export. My ice cream from medicine could also be sold directly to the internet user to the Delice or from the user a Super market. The ice cream items to come straight from the doors frozen are a machine. Like the Delice a delivery service, which will be small straight customer, a large delivery and service provided in the wholesale sellers and retailers . As per my market research sample that most of my people for regular use of the questionnaire on their home shopping tesco. I am therefore Tells that this is a good step. My ice cream products sold in tesco Store, as that tesco is that UK. The. Most of supermarket chain and therefore more people in comparison shop tesco of any other reserves. PROMOTION Ice cream for the promotion of my product should be recognised in the market and I will be successful in to carry out and pursue with some heavy advertising and promotion. This is because when I started product is in direct will be converted into making market and it should be the sale. BRANDING. Already including a Delice of the brand name in the ice cream market, so It is in recognition of excellence for the Delice of ice-cream as its leading in ice cream brand. Delice of the brand name is being very useful for me ice cream products, as my products produced by the Delice. This is my product gives a head start when he is in the market has been initiated. This is because, it will be given recognition to the brand name and consumers with Delice-that they can purchase with my ice cream product was because of this fact is that it was produced by the Delice. Ice cream also my part d Or range of products, it proves, because as a benefit that consumers can avail of Anand, which already eat d Or want to have to try to ice cream of new flavour was introduced. Has been established. So My ice cream brand name product may prove useful for my product. As I found that my Market Research Analysis, a very large number of people on the Delice I preferred Ice Cream of objection to any other b rand. I have decided to use the media to advertise their product mix. I am used to mix of Media in more detail has been stated below. Television Advertisement The Delice already advertise their ice-cream Tea. V. Products on, and also from that of or D category are also its advertising. So I have decided that, limited budget because of the Delice to have this product will be submitted to the proper bridle on a new knowledge about the total fund for the already existing d Or from advertising. It will be very good instead of creating a new advertisement for the new taste, as a large amount that this will start. That will be advertising a slot in a time between the children of programmes in the afternoon and in any films or plain in the evening soap night and my market research according to analysis, the specimen to meet the people for that I have asked my questionnaire said that they had seen that they advertised on buying V. ice-cream to encourage them for therefore for the purchase of products. Magazine. Delice my ice cream in product will be advertised weekly/monthly food magazines, because it can prove to be about if the food of reading-title magazine. In as an additional bonus, to attract the additional for readers to buy ice cream, I can be a place was on some of food-cuisine day. May be made desserts that is using my ice-cream products. It is perhaps just to encourage the, go out and buy ice cream that if they want to make dessert. Posters- I also produce posters to advertise for ice cream. The consumers of these products it agrees to the objective to purchase their products through attractive pictures of the use of ice cream, and some basic simple words to congratulate the picture. These many times can prove very effective cinema Cinema from the place will be fully WBHRC ice cream, as the people that love and joy whilst eating ice cream are watching a film. If advertising is also come, beginning on screen film on the people watching adverts would be encouraged to buy the cream of a film next time, when they are coming. Radio This is a good place for me that would extend my ice cream product because it has proved that most a 15-24 years of age to hear the people of commercial radio. It is good for my ice-cream products most because he is believed to be fit into my part market. Therefore, advertising on radio I capital by my ice-cream disease-carrier products should be considered in the market is my part. Billboards Advertising my ice cream products will be a full billboard manner to get the attention of the people, my ice cream products will be advertised on billboard in shopping centres are busy. I would not have this because many people in shopping centres more people will therefore notice of my product advertising billboard. Period This product of ice cream is very popular because my ice cream products, this additional popular in the summer, when it is hot. While it is not sell as well as in the cold weather. So I would say my launch ice cream products in the summer will not, where ice-cream of a high demand. This high demand of ice-cream products make my firm in market place. As per my Market Research Analysis of ice cream is sold in the summer mostly, so My launch also suitable for my period ice cream product. I am Excise tax on products of my ice cream a marketing strategy. The film makers as a product of my Delice, is that in the Delice leading brand ice cream. Ice cream product part of my train on the Delice or D category, where they have a different types of different flavours. In my products from being a new knowledge-from the Fund or D category. This will be called taste D or to fly banana Division says. From this as a mix of original pink-red fruits, chocolate and vanilla ice cream with fly a ripple through the ice-cream is going on. In packing my ice cream products from d Or very similar to existing would be to d Or products are available. Only one change in colour will be the packaging. Ice cream is going to be cut in will understand, where ice-cream and will be anti protectionist through the bath is visible. The ice cream will cover the bath of the picture as it should see how that when crib is opened. The Gold will cover rim and around it as the existing d or from ice cream product. The Unique Selling Point (USP) will be in my ice-cream product fact is that it is produced by Delice and Part D or range. This is because, to d. can be advertised is ice cream or any high quality products, such as this is also an expensive image while at the cost is not all that is more. Below is a picture of an existing d Or from ice cream products; my ice cream products will be exactly the same view but only in a separate name of the colour and flavour. I am the picture of the revised so that it looks like my ice cream products will be how to view. SWOT analysis Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats SWOT Analysis is to a measure that I can use their internal match strength and weaknesses of trade with the search of opportunities and outer environment which is in danger. Strengths The brand image of a Delice of ice cream brand name products. It is the new producer and ice cream at international level nationally, or good quality is known to the ice cream a good high quality product. These gives rise to unpredictable demand the demand of ice cream products should be unpredictable, particularly during the autumn and winter, to where the consumption of ice-cream is not very popular. Weakness Revised new product-because a lot of my new products, as it has been modified by just to be implemented by a new taste, it has not been tried. So Ice cream vote on the product is not known because this product has not been tried. I for to remove this test could be my products on a sample collected people and their views and ideas in the products. Any improvement or what needs to be modifications. It was made clear that more detail in fraternise Marketing clause in the place. Low market share in the market share of the Delice less; this can be no impact on the success of my new ice cream product, possibly as a result in a market outside the return. Opportunity The opportunities of market share in high-my products desire to be successful in the Delice of high market share of market need. Good marketing-I also take to ensure that my ice cream products from the start good advertising and marketing in the market so that consumers are aware of my product launch market. There are many ways that is what can I like this, above the Internet, billboards, television, radio, etc. Threats The threats of the competitors including walls, Delice ice cream has a number of competitors also, Nestle, Mars, and Hagen-Dazs. These company constantly introduce ice-cream ranging of different flavour and taste in the market. Because these company has already a brand image it is bit difficult to change peoples mind, therefore, I have to be aware of my competitors every time, and I change in prices of ready, advertising and products with my contestants have to compete. In price-ice cream, ice cream market many growers in a by-run very similar product from one another, it encourages companies to be on the price Happy-hour. So To compete with companies to start the price on the basis, as they feel that when consumers to see a uniform they are often not a purchase products at cheap rates, in fact considering the quality. Conclusion I have chosen the ice-cream product considering the interest of people and their taste of mouth bud. Because they need something additional after the food. And these dairy products or the desserts is such item that it can stretch to any group ranging from a five years children to eighty years old man. So the market segment is wide and big for such products. It has is own advantage and it own threats as well. As we have already discussed.

The Scarlet Letter: Passage Explication
Honors American Lit. B Kathryn Durga The Scarlet Letter: The Child at Brook-side3/22/13 In this passage Dimmesdale is speaking about Pearl standing on the other side of the stream refusing to go to him and Hester. The contrast between Pearl standing on the opposite side as them parallels the contrast in their lives. Hester, now not wearing the scarlet letter, and Dimmesdale are concealing their relationship and their sin in the forest, representing a world of secrecy. Pearl, however, is representing a world of truth by refusing to join them until Hester once again wears the ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢, which throughout the book has been Hesterââ¬â¢s truth. The two separate worlds that theyââ¬â¢re a part of cannot come together until they change; Dimmesdale wants Pearl to be the one to change by joining them in their new plan to escape to Europe and by joining them in their lie. Pearl however refuses to be with them until they join her in her truth. This is exemplified by Pearl not going to her mother until she wears the ââ¬ËAââ¬â¢ and by Pearl rejecting Dimmesdale. Pearl washes off Dimmesdaleââ¬â¢s kiss after he once again refuses to hold their hands in public, showing yet again how much she rejects dishonesty.Dimmesdale refers to Pearl as an elf which is defined as, ââ¬Å"one of a class of preternatural beings, especially from mountainous regions, with magical powers, given to capricious and often mischievous interference in human affairs, and usually imagined to be a diminutive being in human formâ⬠. This parallels to Pearlââ¬â¢s character very well because she is very capricious, her mood often changes very quickly and she can be really unpredictable also throughout the book she seems to be meddling in the affairs of Dimmesdale and Hester by not allowing them to live in secrecy. When Dimmesdale says Hester can never meet Pearl again it shows a strong divide between Hester and Pearl as Pearl is still very innocent and pure while her mother is conve yed as a sinner, similar to the way Christians in the bible view sin as a wall between a person and God. Hawthorne says later in the chapter that the separation was the fault of Hester not the fault of Pearl meaning that it was because of Hesterââ¬â¢s transgression that the divide happened not because of anything Pearl did. This shows that Hawthorne believes that sin separates people and that doing something wrong to a person can damage the relationship. This moment shows how Dimmesdale doesnââ¬â¢t want to tell the truth; he wants to be in a loving relationship with Hester but doesnââ¬â¢t want to deal with the sin that they shared. At the moment Hester is carrying the full load of their punishment while Dimmesdale claims he is suffering however he has not had to face the scrutiny of the town the way Hester has. Dimmesdale is asking Pearl to join him in his deceitfulness however she is doing what her mother is not doing by refusing to love and accept Dimmesdale until he revea ls his truth and has to deal with the punishment that Hester had to deal with.Overall Hawthorne uses this quote as imagery of the brook and a simile of the separation of the worlds of sin and truth and also uses this to characterize Dimmesdale as a dishonest person. ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËI have a strange fancy,ââ¬â¢ observed the sensitive minister, ââ¬Ëthat this brook is the boundary between two worlds, and that thou canst never meet thy Pearl again. Or is she an elfish spirit, who, as the legends of our childhood taught us, is forbidden to cross a running stream? Pray hasten her; for this delay has already imparted a tremor to my nerves. ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (pg. 188)

Data Cleaning for Data Analysis in Sociology
Data cleaning is a crucial part of data analysis, particularly when you collect your own quantitative data. After you collect the data, you must enter it into a computer program such as SAS, SPSS, or Excel. During this process, whether it is done by hand or a computer scanner does it, there will be errors. No matter how carefully the data has been entered, errors are inevitable. This could mean incorrect coding, incorrect reading of written codes, incorrect sensing of blackened marks, missing data, and so on. Data cleaning is the process of detecting and correcting these coding errors. There are two types of data cleaning that needs to be performed to data sets. They are possible code cleaning and contingency cleaning. Both are crucial to the data analysis process because if ignored, you will almost always produce misleading research finding. Possible-Code Cleaning Any given variable will have a specified set of answer choices and codes to match each answer choice. For example, the variable gender will have three answer choices and codes for each: 1 for male, 2 for female, and 0 for no answer. If you have a respondent coded as 6 for this variable, it is clear that an error has been made since that is not a possible answer code. Possible-code cleaning is the process of checking to see that only the codes assigned to the answer choices for each question (possible codes) appear in the data file. Some computer programs and statistical software packages available for data entry check for these types of errors as the data is being entered. Here, the user defines the possible codes for each question before the data is entered. Then, if a number outside of the pre-defined possibilities is entered, an error message appears. For example, if the user tried to enter a 6 for gender, the computer might beep and refuse the code. Other computer programs are designed to test for illegitimate codes in completed data files. That is, if they were not checked during the data entry process as just described, there are ways to check the files for coding errors after data entry is complete. If you are not using a computer program that checks for coding errors during the data entry process, you can locate some errors simply by examining the distribution of responses to each item in the data set. For example, you could generate a frequency table for the variable gender and here you would see the number 6 that was mis-entered. You could then search for that entry in the data file and correct it. Contingency Cleaning The second type of data cleaning is called contingency cleaning and is a little more complicated than possible-code cleaning. The logical structure of the data may place certain limits on the responses of certain respondents or on certain variables. Contingency cleaning is the process of checking that only those cases that should have data on a particular variable do in fact have such data. For example, letââ¬â¢s say that you have a questionnaire in which you ask respondents how many times they have been pregnant. All female respondents should have a response coded in the data. Males, however, should either be left blank or should have a special code for failing to answer. If any males in the data are coded as having 3 pregnancies, for example, you know there is an error and it needs to be corrected. References Babbie, E. (2001). Obamas Inspiring 2004 Democratic Convention Speech
On July 27, 2004, Barack Obama, then a senatorial candidate from Illinois, delivered an electrifying speech to the 2004 Democratic National Convention. As the result of the now-legendary speech (presented below), Obama rose to national prominence, and his speech is regarded as one of the great political statements of the 21st century. OUT OF MANY, ONE by Barack Obama Keynote Speech Democratic National Convention in Boston, Mass. July 27, 2004 Thank you so much. Thank you so much... On behalf of the great state of Illinois, crossroads of a nation, Land of Lincoln, let me express my deepest gratitude for the privilege of addressing this convention. Gratitude for Family Heritage Tonight is a particular honor for me because ââ¬â letââ¬â¢s face it ââ¬â my presence on this stage is pretty unlikely. My father was a foreign student, born and raised in a small village in Kenya. He grew up herding goats, went to school in a tin-roof shack. His father ââ¬â my grandfather ââ¬â was a cook, a domestic servant to the British. But my grandfather had larger dreams for his son. Through hard work and perseverance my father got a scholarship to study in a magical place, America, that shone as a beacon of freedom and opportunity to so many who had come before. While studying here, my father met my mother. She was born in a town on the other side of the world, in Kansas. Her father worked on oil rigs and farms through most of the Depression. The day after Pearl Harbor my grandfather signed up for duty; joined Pattonââ¬â¢s army, marched across Europe. Back home, my grandmother raised their baby and went to work on a bomber assembly line. After the war, they studied on the G.I. Bill, bought a house through F.H.A., and later moved west all the way to Hawaii in search of opportunity. And they, too, had big dreams for their daughter. A common dream, born of two continents. My parents shared not only an improbable love, they shared an abiding faith in the possibilities of this nation. They would give me an African name, Barack, or â⬠blessed,â⬠believing that in a tolerant America your name is no barrier to success. They imagined me going to the best schools in the land, even though they werenââ¬â¢t rich, because in a generous America you donââ¬â¢t have to be rich to achieve your potential. They are both passed away now. And yet, I know that, on this night, they look down on me with great pride. I stand here today, grateful for the diversity of my heritage, aware that my parentsââ¬â¢ dreams live on in my two precious daughters. I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that, in no other country on earth, is my story even possible. Tonight, we gather to affirm the greatness of our nation ââ¬â not because of the height of our skyscrapers, or the power of our military, or the size of our economy. Greatness of America Our pride is based on a very simple premise, summed up in a declaration made over two hundred years ago: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. That they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights. That among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That is the true genius of America ââ¬â a faith in simple dreams, an insistence on small miracles: - That we can tuck in our children at night and know that they are fed and clothed and safe from harm. - That we can say what we think, write what we think, without hearing a sudden knock on the door. - That we can have an idea and start our own business without paying a bribe. - That we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution, and that our votes will be counted at least, most of the time. This year, in this election, we are called to reaffirm our values and our commitments, to hold them against a hard reality and see how we are measuring up, to the legacy of our forbearers, and the promise of future generations. And fellow Americans, Democrats, Republicans, Independents ââ¬â I say to you tonight: we have more work to do. - More work to do for the workers I met in Galesburg, Ill., who are losing their union jobs at the Maytag plant thatââ¬â¢s moving to Mexico, and now are having to compete with their own children for jobs that pay seven bucks an hour. - More to do for the father that I met who was losing his job and choking back the tears, wondering how he would pay $4,500 a month for the drugs his son needs without the health benefits that he counted on. - More to do for the young woman in East St. Louis, and thousands more like her, who has the grades, has the drive, has the will, but doesnââ¬â¢t have the money to go to college. Now donââ¬â¢t get me wrong. The people I meet ââ¬â in small towns and big cities, in diners and office parks ââ¬â they donââ¬â¢t expect government to solve all their problems. They know they have to work hard to get ahead ââ¬â and they want to. Go into the collar counties around Chicago, and people will tell you they donââ¬â¢t want their tax money wasted, by a welfare agency or by the Pentagon. Go into any inner city neighborhood, and folks will tell you that government alone canââ¬â¢t teach our kids to learn ââ¬â they know that parents have to teach, that children canââ¬â¢t achieve unless we raise their expectations and turn off the television sets and eradicate the slander that says a black youth with a book is acting white. They know those things. People donââ¬â¢t expect government to solve all their problems.à But they sense, deep in their bones, that with just a slight change in priorities, we can make sure that every child in America has a decent shot at life, and that the doors of opportunity remain open to all. They know we can do better. And they want that choice. John Kerry In this election, we offer that choice. Our Party has chosen a man to lead us who embodies the best this country has to offer. And that man is John Kerry. John Kerry understands the ideals of community, faith, and service because theyââ¬â¢ve defined his life. From his heroic service to Vietnam, to his years as a prosecutor andà lieutenant governor, through two decades in the United States Senate, he has devoted himself to this country. Again and again, weââ¬â¢ve seen him make tough choices when easier ones were available. His values ââ¬â and his record ââ¬â affirm what is best in us. John Kerry believes in an America where hard work is rewarded; so instead of offering tax breaks to companies shipping jobs overseas, he offers them to companies creating jobs here at home. John Kerry believes in an America where all Americans can afford the same health coverage our politicians in Washington have for themselves. John Kerry believes in energy independence, so we arenââ¬â¢t held hostage to the profits of oil companies, or the sabotage of foreign oil fields. John Kerry believes in the Constitutional freedoms that have made our country the envy of the world, and he will never sacrifice our basic liberties, nor use faith as a wedge to divide us. And John Kerry believes that in a dangerous world war must be an option sometimes, but it should never be the first option. You know, a while back, I met a young man named Seamus in a V.F.W. Hall in East Moline, Ill.. He was a good-looking kid, six two, six three, clear eyed, with an easy smile. He told me heââ¬â¢d joined the Marines, and was heading to Iraq the following week. And as I listened to him explain why heââ¬â¢d enlisted, the absolute faith he had in our country and its leaders, his devotion to duty and service, I thought this young man was all that any of us might hope for in a child. But then I asked myself:à Are we serving Seamus as well as he is serving us? I thought of the 900 men and women ââ¬â sons and daughters, husbands and wives, friends and neighbors, who wonââ¬â¢t be returning to their own hometowns. I thought of the families Iââ¬â¢ve met who were struggling to get by without a loved oneââ¬â¢s full income, or whose loved ones had returned with a limb missing or nerves shattered, but who still lacked long-term health benefits because they were Reservists. When we send our young men and women into harmââ¬â¢s way, we have a solemn obligation not to fudge the numbers or shade the truth about why theyââ¬â¢re going, to care for their families while theyââ¬â¢re gone, to tend to the soldiers upon their return, and to never ever go to war without enough troops to win the war, secure the peace, and earn the respect of the world. Now let me be clear. Let me be clear. We have real enemies in the world. These enemies must be found. They must be pursued ââ¬â and they must be defeated. John Kerry knows this. And just as Lieutenant Kerry did not hesitate to risk his life to protect the men who served with him in Vietnam, President Kerry will not hesitate one moment to use our military might to keep America safe and secure. John Kerryà believes in America. And he knows that itââ¬â¢s not enough for just some of us to prosper. For alongside our famous individualism, thereââ¬â¢s another ingredient in the American saga. A belief that weââ¬â¢re all connected as one people. If there is a child on the south side of Chicago who canââ¬â¢t read, that matters to me, even if itââ¬â¢s not my child. If thereââ¬â¢s a senior citizen somewhere who canââ¬â¢t pay for their prescription drugs, and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if itââ¬â¢s not my grandparent. If thereââ¬â¢s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens myà civil liberties. It is that fundamental belief, it is that fundamental belief, I am my brotherââ¬â¢s keeper, I am my sisterââ¬â¢s keeper that makes this country work. Itââ¬â¢s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams and yet still come together as one American family. E Pluribus Unum. Out of Many, One. Now even as we speak, there are those who are preparing to divide us, the spin masters, the negative ad peddlers who embrace the politics of anything goes. Well, I say to them tonight, there is not a liberal America and a conservative America ââ¬â there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America ââ¬â thereââ¬â¢s the United States of America. The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But Iââ¬â¢ve got news for them, too: We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we donââ¬â¢t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, weââ¬â¢ve got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We Are One People We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America. In the end, thatââ¬â¢s what this election is about. Do we participate in a politics of cynicism or do we participate in a politics of hope? John Kerry calls on us to hope. John Edwards calls on us to hope. Iââ¬â¢m not talking about blind optimism here ââ¬â the almost willful ignorance that thinks unemployment will go away if we just donââ¬â¢t think about it, or the health care crisis will solve itself if we just ignore it. Thatââ¬â¢s not what Iââ¬â¢m talking about. Iââ¬â¢m talking about something more substantial. Itââ¬â¢s the hope of slaves sitting around a fire singing freedom songs. The hope of immigrants setting out for distant shores. The hope of a young naval lieutenant bravely patrolling the Mekong Delta. The hope of a millworkerââ¬â¢s son who dares to defy the odds. The hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too. Hope in the face of difficulty. Hope in the face of uncertainty. The audacity of hope! In the end, that is Godââ¬â¢s greatest gift to us, the bedrock of this nation. A belief in things not seen. A belief that there are better days ahead. I believe that we can give our middle class relief and provide working families with a road to opportunity. I believe we can provide jobs to the jobless, homes to the homeless, and reclaim young people in cities across America from violence and despair. I believe that we have a righteous wind at our backs and that as we stand on the crossroads of history, we can make the right choices, and meet the challenges that face us. America! Tonight, if you feel the same energy that I do, if you feel the same urgency that I do, if you feel the same passion I do, if you feel the same hopefulness that I do ââ¬â if we do what we must do, then I have no doubts that all across the country, from Florida to Oregon, from Washington to Maine, the people will rise up in November, and John Kerry will be sworn in as president, and John Edwards will be sworn in as vice president, and this country will reclaim its promise, and out of this long political darkness a brighter day will come. Thank you very much everybody. God bless you. Thank you. Thank you, and God bless America.
